[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]As part of my “SaaS vs SEO” Interview Series, I’m talking to founders and marketers on all things SEO, content, and growth for SaaS companies.
“There wasn’t much “deciding” whether we want SEO or not. We believe it’s something you’ve got to do.”
I recently caught up with Agnieszka Kasperek of Taskeo to discuss his approach to SEO.
Hello! Can you give us a little introduction and background on yourself and what you are working on?
First of all – hi everyone and thank you, Alan, for having me for this interview. My name’s Agnieszka and I’m part of the Taskeo (https://taskeo.co/) team.
While my colleagues build our project management platform, I look after our content and online presence.
Why did you decide to use SEO to attract users and grow your product and what results did you achieve?
There wasn’t much “deciding” whether we want SEO or not. We believe it’s something you’ve got to do. It’s a mandatory part of every promotion strategy.
All our efforts, such as content marketing, for example, include that part. As for the results? I’d love to show you big data and how we got ourselves a stellar SEO campaign… but I’ll have to disappoint you.
We’re still a startup, we’re just made our way of the beta phase. We work on our SEO but it’s going to take a while before I can boast about anything.
In what phase of the business lifecycle have you started your blog and when did you start to see a significant ROI from it?
We decided to start our blog as a core part of our content marketing strategy. It wasn’t that long ago – we waited for our platform to be good enough so we can show it to people.
That’s why the presence of our content online is still not fully established and that in return means – we’re still to see some solid ROI data for us to come.
I’m aware that there’s some controversy surrounding blogging for business in general. I’ve even encountered an opinion that it no longer serves its purpose because the blogging zone is extremely saturated.
However, I still believe that if you do it right and keep a laser of focus of the WHY behind your blogging, it can serve your startup and help you grow.
What’s been working well for you and why (with SEO)?
Definitely the link building. Making other pages link back to us is what brings us most traffic. This is also something we’d like to focus on in the future, perhaps even more than aiming for keywords.
Search engines are smarter than we often think. They track relations between your pages and the rest of the web so we want to invest in making sure we’ve got a strong network of sites linking back to us.
What have you tried that hasn’t worked very well (with SEO)?
It’s still too early for Taskeo to say what hasn’t been working. Surely it’s hard to rank for some keywords that are important to us, and as such we’ve got to wait quite a while for any results to kick in.
What kind of link building or promotion have you tried if any?
As mentioned before, link building is something we’d like to focus on. Not only listings of software, but also sites providing content. This isn’t an overnight process but it’s important.
You have to reach out to people and offer them something. Create connections, cooperate and build your network. It’s not only about throwing your link on their site somewhere.
If you do it right, you’ll earn yourself supporters in your niche.
For us, it’s mainly guest blogging. We’re always open to give something from us, create something for others and network with people present in the same market as us.
You don’t have to be our potential user, but if you’re all about productivity and improving how teams work, we’d definitely like to hear from you. SEO and link building is just a practical addition to all of that.
Have you ever hired any external SEO help? If so, How did that go?
No, we’re actually all about the team effort here.
Every one of us has varying experiences with SEO and I think that’s valuable in its own way.
For example, while others take care of the technical stuff and think about how search engines interact with us, I am here to make sure we don’t forget the human aspect in all of it.
What would you like to know more about regarding SEO that you currently don’t know?
I don’t think I could name one thing in particular. Probably if you showed me ANY article on SEO I’d be interested in it regardless of the subjected touched in it.
There’s always something we don’t know or something we could improve. The point is the same just like in case of creating a product – always look for ways to improve and learn from what others say.
Is there anything I can help promote for you?
We’ll be definitely happy to work with you the future and I’m sure we can come up with something awesome.
Here at Taskeo we’re always ready to work with others on different projects, so if you – or anyone reading this interview, really – would like to reach out to us, we’re here open for ideas.
And of course, I encourage everybody to check out our platform and drop their feedback so we can make it better!
